Naturefriends Rastatt have been working together for many years with a women's network in Senegal, which campaigns against poverty, hunger and the lack of perspectives of young people. Most recently, the Naturefriends group has been involved in the construction of an environmental and training centre for girls in St. Louis. Thanks to numerous donations and a grant from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the project, which cost almost 68,000 euros, was realised: the centre was opened with a big ceremony on 29 April 2018.

In four classrooms, 25 women and girls each, who otherwise would have hardly any chance of receiving higher education, can now learn traditional trades such as tailoring, fabric printing and dyeing, hairdressing or the processing of regional vegetables. The curriculum also includes the teaching of basic business management skills. Additional evening classes, which are open to the entire population of St. Louis, cover topics such as environmental protection or the background of climate change. In future, literacy courses shall also be organised.
