083 | Wells for Burkina Faso
Two wells for 1,000 inhabitants - that was the situation in the village of Bangagou in Burkina Faso in 2017. It was a long and arduous journey for the women to get there, and the water thus obtained was not sufficient to irrigate the fields and water the farm animals. The region is also suffering from the effects of climate change and is becoming drier and drier. Many young people move away because they no longer see any prospects.
The Naturefriends´ local group in Gran Pino has launched a project to support regional agriculture by building new wells. One well has already been built, but more wells are needed to ensure a sufficient supply of water. The local group continues its project and collects donations.
