The project "Srebrenica - City of Hope" was initiated by the Bosnian association Prijatelji Prirode Oaza Mira (PPOM). The organisation is committed to the development of sustainable tourism in Srebrenica in order to strengthen the region economically. This idea corresponds to the values and principles of the Naturfriends so much that the Naturefriends Italy have decided to support this project from the beginning.

PPOM wants its city to be appreciated again for its natural beauties and its traditional and rural lifestyle, and not only for the genocide of 8372 Muslims in 1995. The entire region has still not recovered economically, so PPOM's activities can make an important contribution to giving young people in particular a new perspective. Tourists have the opportunity to stay overnight with host families, take part in guided hikes in small groups and thus come into contact with the local population – at the same time a new source of income opens up for the locals.
