In the campaign “Green Paths”, Naturefriends activities focused on the threat of the European natural environment and cultural landscape posed by the rapidly increasing level of traffic and the advancing overdevelopment and urban sprawl. Around 200 specific projects aimed at publicly pointing out how carelessly our landscapes are treated and contributed to protecting an intact natural environment and cultural landscape.

One of the outcomes of the campaign was a cross-border long-distance trail along the rivers Meuse, Swalm and Nette in Germany and the Netherlands. A cross-border quiz rally was organised annually for kids from Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany. In Great Britain, Naturefriends espoused the cause of preserving a historic walking trail which was supposed to make way for a construction project. And Naturefriends Austria continued the culture trail “Kulturweg Alpen”, which had been established by Naturefriends Switzerland, along a Southern and a Northern route through Austria to the Hungarian border and published a comprehensive hiking guide for each of the routes.
