In various activities, the international campaign “Blue rivers for Europe” draws attention to the threat that our streams face due to river-training measures, energy-management measures, intensive agriculture and industry. “Water guardianships” evolve into the campaign’s centrepiece; the aim is to initiate revitalisation measures and the protection of near-nature river sections and wetlands.
In seminars, interested Naturefriends learn the ropes for participating in the campaign; they then implement activities in their local groups. Thus, the campaign contributes to awareness-raising among the population in many regions about the importance of near-nature rivers.
