Every year, young volunteers become involved in environmental protection and eco-tourism in Alpine regions during international environmental workcamps organised by Austrian Young Naturefriends. Everyone between 16 and 30 years of age is welcome to join in, if they love to be outdoors, want to actively contribute to environmental protection and meet new people.

After such an environmental workcamp, the participants are usually exhausted but happy – the days in the mountains are physically demanding and the evenings at the hut tend to be long. The young people often describe their extraordinary mission as eventful and meaningful. They take fond, unique memories back home, as well as new friendships that they established across language barriers.

In every environmental workcamp, all volunteers together dedicate around 250 hours of work to the environment. The helpers are rewarded with excellent food and lodging at the Naturefriends hut. Besides work, fun is also an important part of the workcamps: one day is dedicated to leisure-time activities such as climbing or hiking.
