In the summer of 2004, Naturefriends Austria and Naturefriends International open the Natura Trail through the Natura 2000 site "Sablatnigmoor" in Carinthia. The aim is to promote experiencing nature in the diverse moorland landscape with its species-rich flora and fauna and at the same time to raise awareness of the European Natura 2000 network of protected areas.

Together with the Kühnsdorf local group, a colourful flyer about the area was produced, which, in addition to a detailed description of the route, contains all kinds of interesting information about the characteristic animal and plant species of the Sablatnigmoor, including magnificent orchids, the rare Balkan moor frog with its wedding dress dyed blue in spring mating season and the exotic-looking kingfisher.

The Sablatnigmoor Natura Trail is the first in a long series of now well over 100 Natura Trails throughout Europe, which have developed over the years into a success story for Naturefriends and stand for nature-compatible leisure use in our protected areas.
