034 | Planting trees, saving rivers
A fundraising campaign organised by Naturefriends International enabled Naturefriends Togo (CASE Togo Amis de la Nature) to carry out a reforestation project concentrating on gallery forests along rivers in the highland region of Togo. The project involved numerous smaller rivers in the catchment area of the streams Zi and Haho. The goal was to prevent the rivers from drying up by planting trees along the shores. The necessary seedlings were grown at CASE Togo and planted within the scope of international youth work camps.
The measures were carried out under the direction of the experts from CASE Togo and the very enthusiastic villagers. The reforestation has practical benefits for the local population, but the action also contributes to the conservation of biodiversity and climate protection in general.
